Course Structure, incl. Curriculum

The bachelor’s degree is passed by successfully completing modules and skills lines. Modules are course blocks in which direct basic medical knowledge from the preclinical and clinical areas is imparted; in specific patient treatment, this extends to diagnosis. In the skills lines, which are laid out longitudinally over all semesters of the bachelor’s degree, skills are imparted that serve the personality development and communication skills of the students, the training of technical-scientific competencies and early contact with patients.

In addition to the lectures, a large part of the teaching of the bachelor’s degree is carried out in small groups in order to give enough space to individual questions as well as the theory-practice transfer or the practice-theory transfer. Theory and practice are coordinated in terms of content and timing. The practical tasks are an important element. The students receive work assignments in lessons from the subject managers, who mostly come from practical experience, which are derived from the theoretical lessons and which are developed and practiced during the internship and in the course of the guided self-study in coordination with the clinical mentors and supervisors. Working on case studies is a method that is particularly used in small group lessons.

The bachelor thesis is handled in the sense of crediting the term papers, presentations and posters completed in semesters 1 to 6 in the skills line “Evidence-based Medicine and Public Health”. In this skills line the essential and most important aspects of scientific thinking, working and writing are conveyed. The cumulative bachelor thesis thus provides a representative overview of the student’s scientific abilities and skills.
