Fundamental research
Experimental research is already taking place through national and international cooperation projects at selected faculty chairs.

Clinical research
In clinical research, the research activities of the faculty’s chairs are to be supported and further developed. This is done by supporting the research office in administrating and organizing projects, through additional staff, and above all by supporting biostatistical and epidemiological elements of conducted studies, provided by the staff of the respective department and the dean. In addition, the university provides funding for research projects, following competitive and transparent internal guidelines.

Research focus: integrated health
In general, the SFU’s strength lies in psychosomatic medicine and psychosocial health determinants. Therefore the training and research expertise of the SFU’s Faculties of Psychology and Psychotherapy Science are made good use of and valuable synergies are achieved.

Research cooperation
The Faculty of Medicine aims at a vigorous international exchange in research and teaching with universities and research institutes.

Existing co-operations of the faculty’s clinical chairs with national and international partner organizations, institutions and hospitals are to be expanded further. Students actively participate in training research projects through optional research internships within the frame of the clinical elective course in the 4th and 5th year of study.
