The research strategy of the Faculty of Medicine operates within the strategic guidelines of the SFU. This includes not only the close networking of science and profession, but also the definition of a research profile with an interdisciplinary breadth on the one hand and a co-operative deepening of research focuses on the other.

The overarching goal of the Faculty of Medicine is to establish the defined research priorities in the chairs, institutes and centres in their respective disciplines and orientations and to establish the Faculty of Medicine within the next twelve years as an institution with excellent research in the defined research priorities and with unique selling points that cannot be found in this form at any other university.

At the Faculty of Medicine, there is a broad and diverse link between research and teaching. Students interested in scientific collaboration can choose from more than 200 research projects from the various areas of medicine.
