Research projects in dentistry

The research concept of dentistry is integrated into the research concept of the Faculty of Medicine and includes methodological priorities that are designed for transdisciplinary processing in the following areas: “Linking dental research with psychological and psychotherapeutic research” and “Digitalised dentistry”.

Research focus “Linking dental research with psychological and psychotherapeutic research”
One research focus of dentistry is the linking of dental research with psychological and psychotherapeutic research. With this focus, research questions relate to the interaction of the patient with the dentist with regard to the following aspects:

  • patient motivation and compliance prior to treatment (e.g. research into new approaches to patient behaviour management in terms of successful prophylaxis in collaboration with the Faculties of Psychotherapy Science and Psychology)
  • Dental treatment from the patient’s perspective (e.g. research into new approaches to successful anxiety prophylaxis in collaboration with the Faculty of Psychotherapy Science),
  • Psychosomatics of the mouth and jaw area,
  • Aesthetic perception under the influence of peri-implant soft tissue changes (e.g. investigating patients’ attitudes and expectations towards dental treatments in collaboration with the Faculty of Psychology),
  • Patients with special needs, such as those with severe apraxia or severe motor impairments following traumatic brain injury.
