MED | Dr. Shady Atamniy, Graduate in Human Medicine, Awarded the John Henahan Writing Prize

We are delighted to highlight an outstanding scientific achievement: Dr. Shady Atamniy, an SFU  graduate in Human Medicine, was awarded the John Henahan Writing Prize at the annual European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Congress in Copenhagen.

The ESCRS Congress is recognised as the world’s largest ophthalmology meeting, bringing together over 15,000 participants from more than 120 countries. It focuses on the latest research developments, clinical innovations, and future challenges in ophthalmology.

The international writing competition honors precise scientific thinking as well as exceptional analytical and linguistic skills.

In his essay, Thinking Beyond Optics: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Unconscious Bias in Ophthalmology, Dr. Atamniy emphasises the need to prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion as central goals to ensure the long-term quality and sustainability of ophthalmology.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Atamniy on this significant achievement.
